SESSIONS

The Academic Year is divided into bimonthly (6 to 10-weeks) sessions beginning mid-August until June. Our Summer Session is a 6-week intensive program for intermediate and advanced dancers, with a limited schedule for Pre-Ballet students. Students are expected to maintain their technique throughout the summer, either by attending EBT’s Summer Program or other high caliber programs.

ACADEMIC HOLIDAYS

There is regularly scheduled class on all weeks from August to June, with the exception of the weeks with these holidays: Christmas, New Year’s, Thanksgiving. After Summer Intensive, there is a two-week summer break before resuming to the regular academic year schedule. In the winter, there are two weeks off for Christmas and New Year’s. Advanced students have the option to attend Winter Intensive, a 10-day program designed for maintaining and honing their technique in preparation for auditions and competitions in the winter. There is also a one-week break following our annual performance, which varies year-to-year.

PLACEMENT AND LEVELS

EBT’s training program comprises 5 levels. Level assignments for new students are determined through an evaluation class. Promotion or demotion of a level can take place at any time at the discretion of the Artistic staff. Acceptance into Ballet 3 is contingent on the results of a student’s pointe test. Promotion into Ballet 4/The Company is determined on the advanced caliber of students’ technique in addition to an exam.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance for all classes in each level are mandatory and non-negotiable. Students are expected to come to class early for every scheduled class. Parents and students are responsible for arranging their schedules to ensure students are able to attend all the classes. If there is a change in EBT’s schedule, families will be notified in advance. Frequent absences will inhibit the promotion of a student to the next level. Students who are injured are encouraged to watch class and take notes. Students who are ill should stay home.

POINTE

Student will be considered for pointe at the end of Ballet 2, during the Intermediate Summer Program. The pointe test is only offered once a year at the end of the Summer Program. To be considered for the exam, students must maintain the required attendance for their level and show a strong sense of mental maturity. The exam consists of five components, plus impeccable class behavior. Students must pass all five components to proceed to pointe. Students may re-take the exam up to three times; if they do not pass then, the student must wait until the next cohort. The decision of pass/fail is unanimously determined by the Artistic staff. Those who pass the exam are expected to maintain their level of technique and commitment.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

EBT has an annual performance in either Fall or Spring. All dancers above Ballet 2 are eligible to participate. Those in Pre-Ballet and Ballet 1 may participate with the approval of the Artistic staff.

COMPETITION OPPORTUNITIES

If students express interest in attending ballet competitions, the Artistic staff will evaluate their eligibility and see if it is a possibility. If so, the student and parent must review the competition contract to ensure mutual understanding in the process. Competitions are additional performance opportunities for students.

DRESS CODE

Female-identifying students are required to wear a plain black leotard and pink tights under their leotard. Male-identifying students are required to wear a form-fitting shirt and black tights. Students are allowed to wear warm-ups at the beginning of class. By the end of barre, they are expected to only wear their leotard and tights. Skirts and colored leotards are not allowed, unless explicitly permitted by the Artistic staff. Hair should be neatly tied in a bun or french twist.

TUITION POLICIES

  1. A one-time $25 registration fee is required to enroll as a student.

  2. Any fee that is more than fourteen days late will incur a $20 late fee for each seven days thereafter. If students have not paid for the session after six weeks, they will not be admitted to class until their dues are paid.

  3. Tuition is not refundable. Students who miss class or withdraw before the end of the session are still obligated to the full session’s fees. Missed classes are expected to be made up by taking lower level classes within the session. A partial refund is available only if a student withdraws from class due to prolonged illness or severe injury. A doctor’s note must accompany a written request.
